What is a pet sitter, and how is it different from a pet hotel?

A pet sitter is a caring individual with experience looking after dogs and cats who provides care in the owner’s home. This model is already very popular in Western countries — companies like Rover and PetBacker help pet owners find nearby, available pet sitters to come to their home. In Taiwan, Fluv provides a matching service for in-home pet sitters. Compared to traditional pet hotels, this approach is better suited to modern pet parents — sitters come to you, saving time on drop-offs and pick-ups, and your pet gets to stay in a familiar environment without the stress.

Many pet owners highly recommend pet sitter services. Fluv is Taiwan’s largest pet sitter platform.

Which pets are a good fit for a pet sitter?

We offer the following services:

In-home care

The pet sitter comes to your home to provide care, including feeding, tidying the environment, playtime, and status updates to you. You can book a free home visit in advance so the sitter can get familiar with the space and meet your pets for the first time.

Great for cats that prefer staying home or dogs with mobility issues. If you have multiple pets, in-home care is also a cost-effective option that lets them stay comfortable in their own space.

Pet boarding and day care

Your pet stays at the sitter’s home and receives one-on-one care, with the freedom to roam around in a home environment. Services include feeding, care, playtime, and regular updates to you — fully cage-free and personalised.

Best suited for sociable, active dogs.

Long-term home care

A great alternative to a pet hotel if you’re away for an extended period and don’t want your pet kept in a cage. A pet sitter takes over the daily routine, and can even take your pet out for walks while you’re gone.

Ideal for owners who travel frequently or for longer periods.

Dog walking service

Working late or caught up with something unexpected? If your dog needs to go out, you can have a pet sitter handle the dog walking — so even when you’re not home, a professional can take your pup out for some fresh air and exercise.

Best for medium to large, high-energy dogs like Huskies, mixed breeds, Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, and more.

Free introductory home visit

We offer a free home visit before your first booking so you can meet your sitter, see the care environment, and let your pet warm up to them — making sure everyone’s comfortable before you officially book.

No matter which service you choose, your pet sitter will send you photos and updates throughout, so you can see exactly how your furry one is doing — even when you’re far away!

Pet sitter FAQ

1. How does the sitter get into your home when you’re away?

Through a home visit arranged in advance, the sitter can come by before the booking starts to meet your pet for the first time and get familiar with the care environment — where the food bowls, litter box, and cleaning supplies are kept — while also getting a feel for your pet’s personality.

During the visit, you and the sitter can work out key handover arrangements. Many owners hand keys over through the building’s concierge or management desk.

2. How are pet sitters vetted? Can I trust a stranger?

All pet sitters on Fluv are animal lovers with hands-on pet care or volunteer experience. They go through identity verification and training before becoming a sitter. You can also browse each sitter’s ratings and reviews through the Fluv review system to find someone you feel truly comfortable with.

3. Who is responsible if my pet gets hurt?

Every booking includes insurance coverage. If an accident happens during care, the pet sitter is responsible for compensation, with a self-pay excess of NT$3,000. For costs beyond that, Cathay Insurance provides additional medical coverage of up to NT$15,000.

4. My pet is shy around strangers — is a pet sitter still a good option?

If your pet is a bit timid or takes time to warm up, a home visit beforehand is a great way to let them meet the sitter first and build some trust. If you still have concerns, you and the sitter can discuss together whether this type of care is the right fit.

If your pet has a history of aggression, pet sitter care may not be suitable — both for the sitter’s safety and to prevent your pet from becoming overly stressed or having an accident.

5. My pet needs medication or wound care — can a pet sitter help?

For any special needs, you can search for sitters who have listed medical care skills in their profile. You can also discuss your pet’s needs directly with the sitter when booking, and make sure all medical care details are clearly communicated.
