What is a pet sitter?

A pet sitter is an animal-loving individual with experience caring for dogs and cats who looks after pets in the owner’s home environment. This type of service is already very popular in Western countries — companies like Rover and PetBacker help pet owners find nearby available pet sitters to come to their home. In Taiwan, Fluv provides in-home pet sitter matching services.

Many pet owners highly recommend pet sitter care services. Fluv is Taiwan’s largest pet sitter platform.

Which pets are a good fit for pet sitter services?

In-home care

The pet sitter visits the owner’s home to provide care, including feeding, litter cleaning, playtime, and status updates to the owner. You can arrange a free meet-and-greet visit in advance so the sitter can familiarize themselves with the environment and meet your pet for the first time.

Great for cats who dislike going out or dogs with limited mobility. If you have multiple pets at home, in-home care is also a cost-effective option that lets your pets stay and move around in their familiar environment.

Pet boarding & day care

Your pet is brought to the sitter’s home for care, with one-on-one attention that lets them roam freely in a home setting. Services include feeding, care, playtime, and regular updates to the owner — with cage-free, personalized service as a key feature.

Ideal for dogs that need one-on-one attention, don’t do well in cages, or have high energy levels.

Long-term home care

A new option for owners who are away for extended periods and don’t want their pet caged in a pet hotel. A pet sitter takes over to maintain your pet’s daily routine, and can even take them out for walks while you’re away.

Perfect for owners with long-term travel needs.

Dog walking service

When you’re working late or can’t make it home in time, a pet sitter can take your dog out for their walk. Your dog gets the outdoor time they need even when you’re not around.

Great for medium to large, high-energy dogs like Huskies, mixed breeds, Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, and more.

Free meet-and-greet visit

We offer a complimentary meet-and-greet visit before your first booking, so you can meet the sitter, see the care environment, and let your pet get comfortable with them — then book with confidence once everything feels right.

Regardless of which service you choose, your pet sitter will send you photo updates throughout, so you can see what your furry friend is up to even when you’re away — reassuring and heartwarming!

Choosing between a pet hotel and a pet sitter

Both pet hotels and pet sitters are great options for caring for your pet — the right choice depends on your own needs and situation.

If you need to be away from home for an extended period, or want your pet to have an independent experience in an outside environment, a pet hotel or in-home boarding could be a great fit. At a pet hotel, your pet receives professional care and management, gets to interact with other dogs, and can practice socializing and play. With in-home boarding, your pet enjoys one-on-one, cage-free, personalized care. Both options include regular updates to the owner, so you can travel with peace of mind.

If you only need to step out briefly, or your pet doesn’t adapt well to new environments, an in-home pet sitter is likely the better choice. The sitter comes to your home, which reduces the stress your pet might feel from a change of environment, and lets them receive customized care in their familiar surroundings.

When you head out on a trip, here’s a brand-new boarding option for your pet beyond the regular pet hotel! Today we’re unboxing a cage-free, one-on-one in-home pet boarding experience — where your pet can stay just as comfortably and freely as they do at home. Highly recommended for all pet parents!

Pet sitter FAQ

1. How does the sitter get into your home when you’re not there?

Through a meet-and-greet visit arranged in advance, the sitter can come to your home for a first meeting with your pet, get familiar with the care environment, and learn where food bowls, litter boxes, and cleaning supplies are kept — and start building a bond with your pet.

During the meet-and-greet, you and the sitter can also discuss key handover arrangements. Many owners use their building’s front desk to pass along a key.

2. How are pet sitters screened? Can you trust a stranger?

All pet sitters on Fluv are animal lovers with experience caring for pets and/or volunteering, and must complete identity verification and training courses before becoming a sitter. You can also browse ratings and reviews from other owners through Fluv’s review system to find a sitter you feel confident about.

3. Who is responsible if my pet gets injured?

Every booking includes insurance coverage. If an accident occurs during care, the pet sitter is responsible for compensation, with a deductible of NT$3,000. For any amount beyond the deductible, Cathay Century Insurance provides up to NT$15,000 in additional medical coverage.

4. My pet is shy around strangers — is a pet sitter still a good fit?

If your pet is on the shy or slow-to-warm-up side, a meet-and-greet visit is a great way to make a first introduction and start building trust between your pet and the sitter. If you still have concerns, the sitter and owner can talk it through together to decide whether this type of care is a good match.

If your pet is aggressive, pet sitter services may not be appropriate — both to protect the sitter and to prevent your pet from becoming overly stressed or anxious in a way that could lead to an incident.

5. My pet needs medication or wound care — can the sitter help?

For any special needs, look for a pet sitter who has specifically listed medical care skills in their profile. You can also discuss this directly when booking and make sure all medical care instructions are clearly communicated.
