The “love” screening for pets

Only sitters who understand and apply positive behavior education can pass the screening.
- Compassion, patience, and attentiveness: Sitters must provide concrete examples of care they’ve given to their own or others’ pets. Fluv’s screening specialists review each sitter’s responses and details to ensure they demonstrate all three qualities: compassion, patience, and attentiveness.
- Pet care and health knowledge: Sitters must understand pet diet, health, and safety — including which foods are harmful to pets, how to read pet body language, common illnesses, and more. The screening exam requires a 100% correct score.
- Sitter’s pet care approach and health information: Sitters must upload photos of their own pet along with details on age, personality, care routines, and health status.
Professional American-style pet sitter training
Once sitters pass the love screening and confirm they have genuine affection for pets as well as knowledge of pet care, health, and positive behavior training, they must complete Fluv’s American-style professional pet sitter course. There are both a foundational course and an advanced course — the foundational pet sitter course is required for all sitters. Sitters who want to care for pets with more complex needs — such as those requiring special medical attention or senior pets — can take continuing education courses.
First, here’s what every in-home pet sitter in the US is expected to complete, whether providing care at the pet owner’s home or at the sitter’s home:
- A meet-and-greet home visit to get to know the pet
- Learning every detail of the pet’s eating, drinking, bathroom, and sleeping habits to provide fully customized care — with a care SOP
- Providing ongoing updates throughout the care period, covering all aspects of the pet’s eating, drinking, bathroom, and sleeping activity
- Pet care safety, accident prevention and response
- Insurance and coverage details

Safety verification: sitter background checks, real-name registration, and contract signing
Because sitters enter clients’ homes to care for their pets, all sitters must pass strict identity verification and sign a contract, giving pet owners complete peace of mind. Safety verification includes:
Real-name registration and background check: Sitters must provide their ID details and take an immediate live selfie with their ID (photos of photos or uploaded images are not accepted), which is then verified by a specialist. Sitters may also upload a criminal background check certificate and any other professional credentials at this stage.
Contract signing to protect all users: sitters must agree to the terms of service and sign an intermediary agreement, protecting both pet owners and sitters.
Open and honest reviews
Transparent, unbiased reviews matter deeply — both to us and to pet owners — because they allow pet owners to see the most genuine, real-world feedback from other pet owners about a sitter. Before a sitter can officially start taking bookings, they must provide at least two references from pet owners they’ve previously cared for. After each service, pet owners can leave honest, heartfelt reviews. And if you’re not satisfied for any reason, you can receive a full refund within three days of the service being completed.
